Do I need a visa to visit Laos?
Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival at Luang Prabang airport and major land borders for about US$30–45 (bring one passport photo), or apply online for an eVisa in advance. ASEAN passport holders enter visa-free. We help with border paperwork on all our cross-border routes.
Should I pay in kip, baht or US dollars?
Lao kip is the official currency and works everywhere. Thai baht and US dollars are accepted by many hotels and tour operators. ATMs are easy to find in Luang Prabang — we recommend carrying kip for markets and villages.
When is the best time to visit Laos?
November to February is cool and dry — peak season. June to October is the green season: short afternoon rains, lush mountains, waterfalls at their fullest and far fewer visitors. We run tours year-round and plan around the weather.
How does the slow boat between Huay Xai and Luang Prabang work?
It's a two-day journey on the Mekong with an overnight stop in Pak Beng. We arrange your tickets, a guesthouse in Pak Beng and border assistance on the Thai side. In high season, book at least a day or two ahead.
